Unclad: Laura Longmore’s Sustainable Fashion Rebellion

Laura Longmore, the creative force behind Unclad is on a mission to redefine sustainable fashion with bold, minimalistic designs that don’t sacrifice style for ethics. In this interview, Laura takes us behind the scenes, sharing how her entrepreneurial journey began, what drives her brand’s aesthetic, and the quirky habits that fuel her creative process.

1. What was the "aha" moment that sparked the idea for your brand, and how did it reflect who you were at that point in your life?

Before launching Unclad, Laura found herself immersed in an entrepreneurship class that required students to create a business plan. What began as a class assignment quickly became a life-changing obsession. "Just before Christmas break, I became completely absorbed in this idea of starting a sustainable fashion brand," Laura recalls. Frustrated with the fashion industry’s lack of sustainable, stylish options, she spent her vacation meticulously planning every detail. "I was obsessed with the color palette, fonts, retail store ideas, website concepts—I laid it all out, and that’s how the framework for Unclad came together." This intense focus and determination laid the foundation for what would soon become a brand that reflects her passion for both fashion and sustainability.

2. If your brand were a character in a film, what would their personality and style be like, and how does that mirror your own?

Laura’s enthusiasm for this question is infectious. "The Unclad woman is definitely driven, focused, and carries a rebellious spirit that not everyone would fully understand," she explains. "There’s a bit of chaos in her life, and because of that, she wants her style to be effortless, minimal, and stylish—without overthinking it." This perfectly mirrors Laura’s own belief that fashion should reflect a person’s individuality without being overly complicated. "I personally believe less is more," she says, aligning her personal style with the ethos of Unclad. The brand champions the idea that fashion should be visceral, reflecting both the person and their mood at that moment in life.

3. Every brand has a secret ingredient that sets it apart—what’s yours, and how does it reflect your personal values or creative vision?

For Laura, Unclad’s "secret ingredient" goes beyond its minimalistic aesthetic. "Our secret ingredient is rooted in our values, mission, and beliefs as a brand—not just in the styling," she emphasizes. Many sustainable brands lean toward bohemian or earthy vibes, but Laura wanted to offer something with an edge. "The Unclad woman? She’s all about minimalism, sexy, and daring looks. She craves a luxurious runway style, but without the hefty price tag or environmental harm." The brand's commitment to sustainability is unwavering, as it refuses to use synthetic fabrics, ensuring that every piece is as ethical as it is stylish. This dedication to being part of the solution is core to both the brand and Laura’s personal values.

4. How has your journey as a creator evolved alongside the growth of your brand? Are there parts of your personal story woven into its identity?

The journey of building Unclad has been one of personal growth for Laura. "I’ve always struggled with patience and needed things to be routine, planned, and strategic," she admits. However, running her own brand has pushed her out of her comfort zone. "Unclad, especially this past year, has taught me so many invaluable lessons. I had to be scrappy. I learned to think on my feet, pivot, and adapt to all kinds of situations." The rebellious, risk-taking side of the brand’s styling reflects Laura’s own evolution as an entrepreneur. It’s been about "breaking free from being too ‘buttoned up,’" a journey of growth that parallels the bold, liberating fashion her brand represents.

5. What’s a little-known ritual or quirky habit you have that you believe has helped fuel the success of your brand?

Laura’s creative process is driven by a slightly unusual but effective habit. "This might sound a bit weird, but I have this almost ritualistic obsession with putting everything about Unclad into a PowerPoint," she laughs. Whether she’s watching a movie or about to go to bed, ideas for the brand are always percolating, and she’s ready to document them. "Next thing I know, I’m back at my laptop, lights on, working on a new concept or strategy." This dedication to capturing every creative spark in the moment has been essential to Unclad’s growth. It keeps Laura connected to her ideas and fuels the brand’s forward momentum.
